(Reinterpretasi Sakinah Perspektif Maqāṣid Al-Usrah)

Abstract

The massive digital transformation has fundamentally altered interaction patterns within contemporary Muslim families. The increasing intensity of technology-mediated communication is often assumed as an indicator of family harmony, yet in many cases it potentially conceals significant relational fragmentation. This article aims to examine and critically analyze the phenomenon of harmony in digital families and to reinterpret the concept of sakinah within the perspective of maqāṣid al-usrah. This study employs a critical-qualitative approach with normative and contextual analysis of classical and contemporary Islamic family law literature, as well as empirical findings from digital family psychology and sociology. The results indicate that: first, digitalization is non-neutral and potentially shifts the meaning of sakinah from substantive relational tranquility to performative pseudo-connectivity; second, the phenomena of technoference and phubbing demonstrably disrupt the dimensions of family objectives (ḥifẓ al-nafs, ḥifẓ al-ʻirḍ, and ḥifẓ al-nasl); and third, sakinah must be fundamentally reconstructed as an adaptive capacity of the family in managing digital distractions and preserving authentic relational quality. This conceptual reconstruction is not merely a terminological update, but rather a necessity for ijthād in Islamic family law that is responsive to the challenges of the digital age.
