Abstract

Authentic assessment in the 2013 curriculum has become a focal point for teachers in measuring students' abilities in a relevant and effective manner. This article presents the findings of literature research that discusses the implementation of authentic assessment in the English language. The assessment method encompasses various forms of student performance based on in-class learning activities, providing opportunities to accurately measure students abilities. Previous studies have provided strong evidence of the effectiveness of using authentic assessment in the English language subject, particularly in assessing reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. In this article, we also identify challenges in implementing authentic assessment and offer theoretical solutions to minimize these issues. Incorporating authentic assessment into English language teaching offers long-term benefits to students, allowing them to develop language skills applicable in real-world situations. This approach is expected to engage students more in the learning process and deepen their understanding of the English language. Moreover, teachers play a crucial role in providing guidance and support to ensure the proper implementation of authentic assessment and yield accurate results in evaluating students' progress. Thus, authentic assessment in the English language subject represents a positive step towards more effective and relevant teaching in the educational curriculum.
