PREFERENSI PEMILIHAN PASANGAN HIDUP DALAM ISLAM: STUDI KITAB QURRAT AL-‘UYUN KARYA IMAM AL-TIHÃMI
Abstract
The stage before entering married life is selecting a life partner. This stage requires preferences that are needed as a reference. This is explained in various general Islamic fiqh literature. Likewise with the book Qurrat al-'Uyun by Imam al-Tihami. This book also discusses preferences for choosing an ideal life partner. These preferences help a person determine the criteria for an ideal and suitable life partner for him. One person's criteria can be different from another, but there must be basic criteria that must be met. This paper will answer the research question; What is the concept of choosing a life partner in Islam? What are the preferences for choosing a life partner according to the book Qurrat al-'Uyun? The discussion will begin with an explanation of marriage and its laws in Islam before entering into a discussion of themes in the book Qurrat al-'Uyun. Al-Tihami explains the ideal criteria for choosing a potential life partner in the book Qurrat al-'Uyun. If these various criteria can be met, it is hoped that they will be a testament to the formation of a family life that is sakinah mawaddah wa rahmah. Among the ideal criteria in question are elements of piety, fertility, kafaah, virginity and physical beauty. The element of piety is the first element that must be considered. With the element of piety in a prospective partner, deficiencies in other ideal elements are understandable.
