Abstract

This article discusses curriculum management approaches within the context of pesantren education as a strategic effort to realize an ideal Islamic school that is adaptive to contemporary challenges. The study focuses on Pondok Pesantren Al-Aqobah Jombang, which has progressively implemented three main approaches: Pesantren Studies, STEAM & Social Studies, and Global Exposure. These approaches reflect an integrative effort to harmonize traditional pesantren values with the competency demands of the 21st century. Using a descriptive qualitative method, the article explores how curriculum management is developed not merely as an administrative tool but as a vehicle for values and institutional vision. The findings reveal that an ideal madrasah in the pesantren framework is an educational institution rooted in strong Islamic values, capable of adopting scientific and social approaches in a contextualized manner, and opening students’ global awareness selectively and purposefully. These findings highlight the importance of visionary and transformative leadership as well as dynamic curriculum management in responding to the demands of contemporary Islamic education.
