The Mading Workshop at MI Miftahul Huda Blitaran Sukomoro Nganjuk is a community service program aimed at enhancing students’ creativity and literacy skills through the use of school wall magazines (mading) as a creative learning medium. This activity was initiated in response to the low reading and writing interest among students and the underutilization of mading as an educational tool in schools. The program was implemented using the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach and the service learning method, positioning students, teachers, and the school community as the main agents of empowerment.
The workshop was conducted over two days, from August 27–28, 2025, through several stages: needs assessment, program planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation. The training focused on introducing the concept of mading, developing creative content, designing layouts, and exhibiting students’ works. The results showed a significant improvement in students’ reading and writing motivation, creative thinking skills, teamwork ability, and self-confidence in presenting their creations publicly. Teachers also gained new insights and methods for implementing more interactive and contextual literacy learning.
Overall, the program demonstrated that the Mading Workshop serves as an effective strategy for fostering creativity and literacy within elementary-level Islamic schools. It not only produced engaging wall magazines but also cultivated collaborative, appreciative, and innovative character traits among students. Therefore, this activity is expected to serve as a sustainable model for creativity-based literacy development in primary education.
